It's typical to use an indirect referrer, of some sort, rather than a direct file, as it allows streaming media in the background, or even the foreground, while the current page still shows. Unfortunately, some (alleged) webmasters do that in some really stupid ways, and it's not just non-Windows browsers that fail to work with their badly written pages. It's not unusual that Microsoft Internet Explorer running on Vista will be unable to use the page.
