I could be wrong, but AIUI, two lines like that are AND.  The form * (^Sender|
To|List-ID): is OR.  I use ORs like this in many of my recipes and they work 
well.  They work equally well at the other side of the equation.  I have one 
recipe that uses a similar OR to put marketing mail from several companies 
into one folder.
