Getting an IP address through DHCP should "just work" as long as you set
up that network interface for it. I use Fedora 10 also, and I have a
separate DHCP server, and all works fine out of the box...well, out of
the DVD, so to speak.

I have my dhcp server set up to offer certain hosts specific IP
addresses, based on the MAC address of the adapter. Could that be your
problem here -- you are giving dhcp an MAC address it does not recognize.
