umm...

for those of us who haven't followed the entire thread...

are you stating that you can't login (as root) to a fc9 machine when you're
local/console to the box?

or is this a situation where you're attempting to do a remote/ssh login as
root?

If you "have been using UNIX/linux for nearly 30 years", and I don't doubt
you, you should be able to figure a way around this very easily. I have only
been using Linux for about fifteen years and it took me almost two minutes.
It
should be much faster for you.
