i am aware. it is a big problem with ac motors, not much, if any, with
synchronous.

granted. as far as power supplies, with hard core it is a problem as
flattened wave tops cause excessive current drain and over heating.

with ferrite core it is less of a problem.

problem is from a slight spiking that can occur, when dc filters are on low
side of rating. this can be seen with a good tb oscope. digital scopes do not
tend to show effect.

cheap one's may, good one's do not. it has been a while from last time i
repaired switching supplies due to price reductions, as it is now cheaper
to replace than to repair. just as it is with a lot computer equipment.

beauty of switchmode supply is that they work with high frequency, which
allows better use of ferrite core and lower farad caps, thereby reducing
heating and cost.

all in all, biggest thing to know and remember, as i feel sure 'poc'
and other readers of his post, plug equipment into proper sockets.

no reflection on you 'poc', i have not do it yet, but that does not mean
that i may not. if i ever do, i hope that it is with my own equipment and
not that of a client.
