You make some good points, but a couple of yours can be rebutted.

A simple RPM cache can be done.  You simply use a HTTP caching proxy,
like Squid, and configure all your computers to use the same mirror.
Squid will cache anything dragged from it, and the next computer wanting
the same RPM file will use your locally cached version.

You may not want the disc ejected.  You might want it to stay in the
drive, so the computer boots the live disc again, without anyone having
to put the disc back in the drive.
