1) The version on my system is broken (there is no option to view the print que on it anywhere - I've tried all the buttons & tabs).

As I wrote before, the two ways to view the print queue are:

A. Click on the printer icon in the notification area (this appears when
you print a job -- at least, it does in a default install).
This doesn't exist.
B. Enable the 'Manage Print Jobs' menu entry using
System->Preferences->Look and Feel->Main Menu: the menu item to enable
is Applications->System Tools->Manage Print Jobs
Doesn't exist either.
You can't do either of these things from the
System->Administration->Printing tool, which it seems is where you're
looking for it.
I can do everything from this *EXCEPT* view the print que.
3) The program requires a non-automatic configuration setting fixed before it will work properly.
This is what I'm trying to find out.

A default installation of Fedora 8 will display a printer icon in the
notification area when you print something.
Doesn't exist and the applet that does it doesn't work for some reason.
