Have you tried going into Control Center/Sound&Multimedia/sound system/ click on the "hardware-tab" and setting the soundcard from auto to alsa? I've done this with all of my audio / video apps where I can, as I think I have more of a clue than "auto" does. ;) Might be worth a shot.
