Actually I'm glad I saw both versions because it makes me notice something. Looking at the above I think I begin to understand that this chkconfig is basically an automated way to check on, add, or remove the links in /etc/rc.d/* to the currently installed service daemons? Thus when I manually moved the links to yum-updatesd from those directories, I effectively {did ???} what either of the above commands should accomplish? And that on a redhat system entering something like: # chkconfig yum-update on - -or perhaps- $ su -c 'checkconfig --levels 345 yum-updatesd on' Should automatically insert the {correctly prefixed "K[0-9][0-9]" links ?} to yum-updatesd back into at least the rc3.d, rc4.d & rc5.d directories so that I wouldn't even have to remember exactly where in the run level initialization sequence yum-updatesd needs to start, should I ever want it back??? Did I get the right idea of it? I hope I got it right, cause I'm saving these messages in a place that I should still be able to find when next I upgrade either of my fedora installations to a newer core. Or in case some 'yum update' run should turn it back on for some reason... ############################################################# ##_if_you'd_prefer_an_clearsigned_".asc"_text_file_of_this_## ##message_as_an_mime_encoded_attachment,just_ask_me_while__## ##it's_STILL_IN_my_outbox_folder_._._._=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+;-)_## #gpg sig for: Joe (theWordy) Philbrook DSA key ID 0x6C2163DE# # You can find my public gpg key at http://pgpkeys.mit.edu/ # ############################################################# -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHtdY5RZ/61mwhY94RAqNjAJwNuevKSb4eO36Ypy23pWSLNaI2wwCfQmQx ju3z/zIutK4gFn47WhyDIok= =NbWR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- | ? ? | | -=- -=- I'm NOT clueless... | <?> <?> But I just don't know. | ^ Joe (theWordy) Philbrook | --- J(tWdy)P | <jtwdyp@xxxxxxxx> | ? ? -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
