Agreed. However, you will occasionally run across a device that has an Ethernet port for diagnostics purposes that is designed to plug directly into a computer using a straight through cable. Since the best description we have is "old system", I thought that changing cables would be worth a test. It's not like it is going to cause damage or cost anything. It will be interesting to see the results of Phil's attempts.
