Nice, this is really cool info =) If I got it right, I would not need
to download anything (aside from post-F8 upgrades) if I can copy RPMs
directly from DVD iso, right?

Mmmh... sounds good. I would only need to do a final "yum upgrade" at
the end to ensure nothing wrong was left behind.

Got it, seems worth a try. Do you have any pointers on how to create
the fedora-media.repo?

Actually, shouldn't it be provided by default on the DVD iso so that
it could be used as a fallback upgrade method when anaconda fails
horribly like this?
