>From man cal,
  This is due to the Gregorian Reformation in 1752

A single parameter specifies the year (1 - 9999) to be displayed; note
     the year must be fully specified: “cal 89” will not display a calendar
     for 1989. Two parameters denote the month (1 - 12) and year. If no
     parameters are specified, the current month’s calendar is displayed.

     A year starts on Jan 1.

     The Gregorian Reformation is assumed to have occurred in 1752 on the 3rd
     of September. By this time, most countries had recognized the reforma-
     tion (although a few did not recognize it until the early 1900’s.) Ten
     days following that date were eliminated by the reformation, so the cal-
     endar for that month is a bit unusual.

HISTORY
     A cal command appeared in Version 6 AT&T UNIX.

OTHER VERSIONS
     Several much more elaborate versions of this program exist, with support
     for colors, holidays, birthdays, reminders and appointments, etc. For
     example, try the cal from http://home.sprynet.com/~cbagwell/projects.html
     or GNU gcal.

So now how many days were in that year?

Jan -  31
Feb - 29 up to there-> 60
Mar - 31 up to there -> 91
April - 30  up to there -> 121
May - 31  up to there -> 152
June - 30  up to there -> 182
July - 31  up to there -> 213
August - 31  up to there -> 244
September - 30 but this one has only 19? where did the other days go? up to there -> 263
Oct. - 31  up to there -> 294
Nov. - 30  up to there -> 324
Dec - 31 up to here --> 355

Total Days in that year:
7(31) + 3(30) +1(29) + 19 = 355
This was a leap year, a leap year has 366 days, where are the other 11 days. Ok we lost 11 for September of that year but why?

Is this the only year that has only 355 days?

cal 0 is illegal -->
[olivares@localhost ~]$ cal 0
cal: illegal year value: use 1-9999

Beautiful work Matthew, you have found the exception to the leap year that does not have 366 days? ~]$ cal 1752
                               1752

What were the moon phases for that year 1752?

There was no september 7, 1752, no New Moon

The other moon phases existed. This is intriguing.
