I actually really want to add a custom query tool for it but I need someone to do that work or get some free time to do it.

A custom query tool would be very nice. Also I note that there are currently
36098 machines listed with kernel 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7, and only 259 listed
with 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7. This would imply that a lot of people allowed
the system to send their profile during F7 install, but few have re-sent their
profile after updating to the newer kernel.

Yep.
It would be really nice if more people kept their profiles up to date - but then
as you say you are dependent on people doing checkins and deleting stale
profiles and this cannot easily be automated without infringing privacy.

Don't forget, most of these people will check back in with a monthly checkin. Check again on July 4 :)

Anyway good luck with smolt - it is a useful facility even if there are more
refinements to be developed in time.
