Another option for you is that you can run your own DNS server. I started doing that since getting an ISP with a crappy DNS server long ago. Iinet isn't associated with iHug, is it? They were always having crappy networking issues like you described (DNS and connections). -- (This box runs FC5, my others run FC4 & FC6, in case that's important to the thread.)
