Did you format the entire drive (/dev/sda) or the first partition
(/dev/sda1)? If you formatted the entire drive, then it will have
problems. You may also have to give the partition a label before it
will auto-mount. (I thought they fixed that in one of the updates,
but I could be wrong.) Unlabeled media should still get mounted in
/media, with a generic name...

(It is late, and I don't remember if gparted will make a file system
without a partition...)
