Yes.
You'll have to tweak the alsa mixer quite a bit to get the sound level
(PCM front/left/right/center/surround/etc) - I'm still struggling. (I
had the same problems with SBLive! + 5.1 Creative speakers in Windows NT
back when I was a Windows user - so this is not a Linux problem per
say.)
If you plan on using surround sound in OpenA games (E.g: Q3/4,D3, UTxx),
you'll have to create an .openal file in your home directory.

E.g:
(define devices '(alsa))
(define alsa-out-device "hw:0,0")
(define alsa-out-device "surround51:0,0")
(define alsa-in-device "hw:0,0")
(define speaker-num 6)

BTW, if you find a way to boost the rear speaker level, please let me
know ;)
