Fc4->FC6 no sound, CDROM or DVD detected

After a fresh install of FC6, my box hung on its first boot. The problem was the modprobe line in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules:

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="?*", ENV{MODALIAS}=="?*", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe $env{MODALIAS}"

I commented this line out and the system booted fine, but I have some laggnig problems like, no sound, and now I discover no CDROM/DVD devices in dev. After installing K3b, it found no writable devices, when FC4 did. I assume it should be /dev/hdb as my hard drive is /dev/hda. Has any of this changed in FC6?

Why do I have to comment out this modprobe line in 50-udev.rules?

Thanks for the help...

Regards

Doug P
