If I do that on the SB1000 here, the system hangs at 'Testing NMI' in the 
bootup (hangs between the NMI and the 'watchdog' that is on the same line.  
Without the console=ttyS0,9600, the system boots fine, but no getty on the 
console.

This was already selected when I installed on the SB1000 here.

Quick note: with a serial console and vnc install mode, you can get a serial 
console shell prompt by pressing enter when the console tells you you can do 
so.  Do your dd's there, then continue with the install in the vnc session.  
Takes less time (especially if boot time is very long, like on an E6500 with 
19GB of RAM....which is my next victim...in a few days, at least..that beast 
takes around 15 minutes to boot up).

For now enjoying F12 on an SB1000, albeit as a headless server, not as a 
workstation.
