It should be very simple to write a tool that just modifies the internal data
in the rpm to change the dist tag and rename the file. If you wanted to get
fancy, it could even update cvs for the specfile and update the changelog
section of the rpm as well. It may not be necessary to recompile everything
if that is objectionable.

My personal opinion is that we should rebuild every package at least once
during every development cycle not only so that the tags are correct, but to
make sure packages don't bit-rot as the tool chain improves. I'd rather have
the churn and correctness than less to download and bit-rot.

FWIW, +1. I don't think packages with fc6 tags should be associated in any way with f7. It will cause confusion. A prime example is my mythtv box which has now undergone two distro upgrades (flawlessly I might add) from FC4 > F5 > FC6. To get rid of old cruft and in my naivety I simply ran:

$ rpm -qa | grep -i fc5

after upgrading to see what had been left behind and went through the process of removing and replacing these few packages. I do think a rebuild during every development cycle is a good idea for the reasons already mentioned above as well. More so in fact.

Cheers
Chris
