Hi, to make it possible for users to learn about applications in the gnome-software application installer [1] before they are installed, we need provide some application metadata separate from the package(s). This includes - the application icon - the application name and short description (from the desktop file) - a long description (included in the upstream tarballs specifically for this purpose in the appdata format [2]). These items will be extracted from the built package in koji, and collected in two files (a tar file for the icons, and an xml file for the textual items), which we want to be distributed in our repositories. Release engineering has asked me to get a clarification that shipping application metadata in this way is ok.
