megaraid2 module in legacy kernels

I just put RH9 on a Gateway 2U rackmount server (sorry, not sure of model off-hand). The stock install supported all hardware with no issues. So I assumed we were good to go and the server was deployed. Later I added yum files for Fedora Legacy and updated the box. The 2.4.20-42 kernel appears not to have drivers for the raid card and it's currently stuck on the stock redhat kernel. Was this intentional or perhaps an oversight?

mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.20-42.9.legacybigmem.img 2.4.20-42.9.legacybigmem
No module megaraid2 found for kernel 2.4.20-42.9.legacybigmem

Thanks!
