8.0 to 9 shouldn't be much work.
1. install yum
2. make sure you have 1-2gb free in your yum cachedir
3. point to remote repositories for 9
4. run yum upgrade
5. sit back and see what happens.

it all depends on how much third party stuff you have installed.
