If you can live without a working wifi link I think is better to wait.
If not installing from sources is a reasonable option. Describe then why the tar.gz is not installable and maybe someone can give you some more advices.

In rpmfusion-free[1] repositories you can find ndiswrapper 1.54, but first install rpmfusion-release package. If that doesn't works then you can try to build and install it from sources, but packages are always a much better option.
