Why are you trying to drive an ALPS device with Synaptics driver?
This just makes no sense whatsoever!

Anyway, use tpconfig and stock mouse driver in X11. Kernel, I think,
will load in-kernel alps for you, but it's not a problem. tpconfig
should be able to set the pad anyway.
