I just tried the Test4 Live CD and it locked up after this:
Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = 14060692691 ns)
Even stranger, pressing ctrl-alt-del caused a clean shutdown
(synchronized SCSI caches etc.)
So it was just stuck there, not really locked up.
does notsc help?
