I posted to the https://discussion.fedoraproject.org site but got zero replies. The laptop has an Nvidia card and a built in Raptor Lake Audio Controller:
$ lspci | grep Audio
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Raptor Lake High Definition Audio Controller (rev 11)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation Device 22bb (rev a1)
Have you checked if the nvidia audio device (probably the HDMI link) has become the default audio device? That's likely the reason. If so, you can simply change the default playback device to the other audio controller and everything should be fine. You can see the audio devices either from the speaker icon on the task bar or from system settings
