I was having this same problem after updating, no border except a thin line. I tried changing the width, but nothing happened. It wasn't until I switched from breeze to plastik that my borders changed to something normal. And when I switched back to breeze, the borders stayed normal, and changing the width actually changed the width. Looks like it might have something to do with updating.
