It works for me as well and I did the same tests as Colin.

This is a feature I have never explored but while testing I had no problem.

FWIW I am using a laptop with an external display attached, with the laptop 
being the primary display and the external display the secondary.

The geometry was retained, I say this because initially the external/vga 
display appears on the left while physically is placed on the right side. This 
is by default and with no effort from to configure the X-server. This was even 
a better touch, no need to reconfigure it. :-)
