Just FYI I can confirm the same behaviour/error on this box when trying to 
set/change to another browser. As far as I can tell the syntax is right.

xdg-settings set default-web-browser qupzilla.desktop
xdg-mime: application argument missing
Try 'xdg-mime --help' for more information.
