* critical things like systemd, kernel, glibc in a VM first * install them in two or three stages * test my main applications after each stage * logout before apply desktop updatesafter years of Fedora you learn which packages affect half of your system, just run "lsof | grep DEL | grep /usr" regulary after updates and you get a picture how packages interact with others
