This problem appears to be camera specific.

My Canon S95 will display previews for jpeg but not raw.
My Canon EOS 600D will not display any previews.  I get a "Failed to Download" indication when going to preview.

I don't have answers to your other 2 problems since I don't use those settings.  But, I would think you're not missing anything.  So, as you suggested, I would file bugzillas for each of the 2 (and I think it really is only 2) issues you are seeing.
