I just want give a shout out to the chaps responsible for KDE/Fedora 16.
After years of being a happy Gnome user (initially on Fedora and for the last few years on Ubuntu), I had two rugs pulled from under me by Ubuntu's half baked Unity and Gnome's fully baked, but ill-conceived Gnome 3. I was in a real quandry, and spent a lot of hours trying to cling on to Gnome 2, but to no avail. I turned to Kubuntu, which seemed to fit the bill, but felt ponderous and laggy.
This week I gave KDE/Fedora a go, and I absolutely love it. Everything I liked about Gnome 2 with Compiz, plus a whole bunch of intelligent optional extras. And it totally flies. I predict a stampede of interest towards KDE/Fedora over the coming months. In fact I'll even bet a friendly fiver that KDE will be more popular than Gnome within a few months.
Thanks guys for a job well done.
best
Roy
