Yes I use Amarok without libmtp-hal. Only libmtp-1.0.4-3.fc15.x86_64 is
installed. rpm -q --requires libmtp gives:
/sbin/ldconfig
/sbin/ldconfig
libc.so.6()(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4)(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)(64bit)
libgcc_s.so.1()(64bit)
libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.0)(64bit)
libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.3.1)(64bit)
libmtp.so.8()(64bit)
libusb-0.1.so.4()(64bit)
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
rtld(GNU_HASH)
--> udev
rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1

No problems, when hal* is removed.
