I tried rhythmbox as well but not having installed libmtp-hal didnt get quite the same experience as you did in: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654508 rhythmbox still crashes though. I guess I should bz that:. It does try to access the iphone - makes it buzz several times. Then there is stuff like: [200090.065021] ipheth 2-4:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet now disconnected [200090.166019] usb 2-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 [200090.285070] ipheth 2-4:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached [200090.285107] usb 2-4: usbfs: process 5240 (rhythmbox) did not claim interface 0 before use [200090.285191] usb 2-4: usbfs: process 5228 (rhythmbox) did not claim interface 0 before use [200102.189315] rhythmbox[4807]: segfault at 0 ip 0000003fa468978c sp 00007fffde6fba30 error 4 in librhythmbox-core.so.1.1.0[3fa4600000+158000] [200143.013708] u I'm not quite sure if this is the same as yours and my user with iphone isnt in yet today so will BZ when I can reconfirm exactly what happens. Will copy BZ #'s here. > >> Am I right in thinking kde apps(like amarok) still use hal for hardware >> discovery while gtk apps no longer do? > > KDE apps are supposed to use Phonon, but that's about as much as I know > about it. > > BTW the 3GS sort of works using the Gnome tools. Agreed. It seems really hard to find out which packages are involved and how its all supposed to work. Thats fine if it does work, but when things break it would be good to have a clue about where to look. We have libimobiledevice installed but I'm not sure who uses it. Do we need ifuse? And, as you mentioned earlier, who uses the libmtp and do I need (a fixed) libmtp-hal?
