I noticed the problem when a Flash page on the New York Times site played video but no sound. However, I have now updated my system, which includes installing a new kernel and rebooting, and lo and behold sound is now back again, both on the Flash page and in System Settings. I stress that every user-visible setting is identical to what it was. I don't know if the fix came from the new kernel, or just the reboot, or restarting my KDE session, or the phase of the moon. poc
