NetworkManager still not integrated properly into kde desktop

I think the following bug describes the symptoms I'm seeing:

As I indicated in my follow-up comment (#10) on that bug, I get
identical log-file messages to those shown in the above comment on
both my laptop and my netbook, and nm-applet never remembers any
passwords. But it seems to work reliably on my husband's machine.

(NB: Not using either of the machines in question at the moment, so
can't test anything until much later in the day)
