+1 I find myself needing this all the time.
Also, I'd like to fix the problem that we've been having with unicode in the from headers of git commit emails. This would involve adding send-unicode-email.py (in http://ricky.fedorapeople.org/fedora-git-commit-mail-hook/) to puppetand modifying git-commit-email-hook to call it instead of sendmail.
