A lot of what Flash can do can be done in SVG if you have a modern browser (FF 1.5+, dunno about the status of IE). Recently Nicu Buculei posted a demonstration web site done entirely in SVG[1]. Not that I'd really recommend it though, but it shows the power of SVG. The Totem Mozilla plugin does an excellent job of displaying embedded video as well. Even if gnash or swfdec become part of Fedora, they will always be playing "catch up" with a proprietary standard controlled by a commercial company.
