Basically, I don't think the format of your font should drive your licensing decisions. If the GPL is appropriate for the metatype version it's appropriate for the OTF version. Just "it looks more like software as usual" is a weak reason. Now, I do agree one of the OFL's main weakness is its refusal to admit fonts may have sources (the other being the way it considers you want your font renamed instead of making it an option), but the GPL has other problems (embedding).
