With rebuild-gcj-db as an alternative I'm not sure this is even possible
now (especially if gcj is not the currently-selected alternative).  I
think we can get away with "breaking backwards compatibility" here in
the interest of not maintaining a "rebuild-gcj-db" script indefinitely.
