I was reminded that with spandsp, you can get a v32modem to function as an fxs port. Of course this puts the burden for i/o handling on your cpu. Use to do this lots of years ago, and really forgot those days. You do have to watch out for how disk i/o could interupt the modem handling.
Whoever or whatever reminded you of that is wrong. There is no V.32 modem in spandsp.

Here is the response from the freepbx forum:

"One answer and quite easy if you use a Debian based system as you do, is to install a t32modem or two along with spandsp and run it through asterisk/hylafax. No hardware/license needed, add Avantfax and you have a fully functional fax gateway with a GUI that can send and receive faxes complete with email forwarding. True you will have to get your hands dirty (and your brain) but it has worked very well for years now."

But now it retrospect, I think he is talking fxo functionality, not fxs. Worth a try. Once I get to it. But I do remember, back in '07 running with a couple clone wildcards and spandsp. Finally got a real digium fxs/fxo pci card.

He's talking about FAX. spandsp provides a lot of FAX facilities, including FAX modems. It doesn't provide V.32 modems.
