Sounds to me like there needs to be a standard format for discussing
such stuff on an email list which can then be hoovered up by automated
systems and spewed out the other side with all the JSON one can throw at
it! Such a standard would have to take in to consideration every email
list format and every possible topic (as well as some majicks for the
edge cases).

Or alternatively, as per time immemorial, users can set up their own
systems to do this for themselves and then offer to the world the
'discovered' information and contribute back, if they feel the need to
do so.

RFCs 3501 and 3028 would be my starting point, but I feel I'm drifting a
little OT.
