Well, yep. That's pretty much standard practice AFAIK.

If qemu-img isn't smart enough to handle the above VMDK format, it looks
like it'll need to be handled in virt-convert somehow.

(Side note: the ability to handle VMDK is of course hypervisor-specific;
we'll need to figure out a way to skip the conversion step.)
