Re: Please don't add Python 2 packages to EPEL 8 unless absolutely necessary

And BTW, please add more python3 package in EPEL7 (and EPEL6 before it goes EOL).

As a developer, it's very difficult to support (EPEL6) EPEL7 and EPEL8 at the same time. Many python3 packages are missing in EPEL7 and many python2 packages are missing in EPEL8.

I'm for move to python3, but current python3 support in epel7 is "poor". (e.g. python3-twisted, python3-cheetah, python3-pyserial, ...)
I took fedora packages and they build fine against python36, so the effort should be acceptable IMHO.

Cheers,

    Hello EPEL packagers.

More and more of you are asking for Python packages to be added into EPEL 8.
I see that in some cases, the Python 2 subpackage is added as well, because it
is possible. While there is absolutely no policy whatsoever that would forbid
this in EPEL 8, I personally beg you not to do that, unless it is absolutely
    necessary.

Python 2 upstream support ends in 2 months (minus 8 days).
Python 2 support in RHEL 8 ends in 2024 (IIRC).
RHEL/EPEL 8 support ends in 100 years (give or take).

By adding Python 2 packages, you are creating a technical debt that will need to
be resolved in couple years. Avoid this problem early. Don't add them. Pretty
    please.

    Thanks,
