At today's EPEL Steering Committee, we went over the current Python3x packages and the work to move to a newer version than Python34. We decided to propose 2018-10-16 to be a day long virtual hackfest (activity day?) where a newer spec files for packages are updated to an agreed upon Python version. While we have been working towards python36 before, it has been nearly a year and python37 is out and will have a 'lifetime' until 2023 versus 2021 that 3.6 does. Work to be done before the activity day: 1. Determine if python3.7 is what python developers want. 2. Try to get spec files and builds for the 'core' python3x done and approved in EPEL. 3. Write out a fast-track approval process for people to follow when reviewing and updating spec files. The goal of this activity day will be: 1. Port over as many python3x spec files to the agreed upon python3. 2. Review as many of those spec files as possible. 3. Build packages and put into epel-testing. After the activity day: Retire python34 from EPEL. -- Stephen J Smoogen. _______________________________________________ epel-devel mailing list -- epel-devel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send an email to epel-devel-leave@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Fedora Code of Conduct: https://getfedora.org/code-of-conduct.html List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/epel-devel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
