tg3: forcing full duplex with ethtool during bootup

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello,

I use a cluster of machines using broadcom 5703 adapters
(reported as Tigon3 [partno(BCM95703A30) rev 1002 PHY(5703)])
My kernel a 2.4.18-27.7x smp kernel with the tg3 module.
The switch is not properly configured to autonegociate full duplex mode, so
I have tried to use :
alias eth0 tg3
post-install eth0 /usr/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 100 duplex full
in /etc/modules.conf

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work during the boot : I get the
following from ethtool :
Cannot get current device settings: Resource temporarily unavailable
   not setting speed
   not setting duplex
   not setting autoneg

(Adding a "sleep 3 && " doesn't help either)

Putting the ethtool command in /etc/rc.local works, but I don't know if
resetting
the interface parameters so late during the boot sequence is very clean.

Any idea ?

Dominique
