> 3. May I suggest rawhide? I downloaded Fedora-12-Alpha-i386-disc1.iso from the Alpha-RC2 release. The checksum in Fedora-12-Alpha-i386-CHECKSUM matched the results of sha256sum (although Fedora-12-Alpha-i386-CHECKSUM says "Hash: SHA1"). I checked the "Alpha" (not "RC2") download and even though the directory had changed the file must not have since the checksum was the same. So I have the "Alpha" F12 CD1. So I extracted install.img and initrd.img and vmlinuz and tried to boot it using PXE. I tried all of: kernel F12-AlphaRC2/vmlinuz append initrd=F12-AlphaRC2/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 kernel F12-AlphaRC2/vmlinuz append initrd=F12-AlphaRC2/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 text kernel F12-AlphaRC2/vmlinuz append initrd=F12-AlphaRC2/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 askmethod kernel F12-AlphaRC2/vmlinuz append initrd=F12-AlphaRC2/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 repo=nfsiso:172.22.101.50:/home2/me/F/F12-AlphaRC2 ip=dhcp stage2=nfs:172.22.101.50:/home2/me/F/F12-AlphaRC2/install.img keymap=us lang=en_US.UTF-8 loglevel=debug (The last "append" was all on one line, in my pxelinux.cfg file.) All failed the same way. After some initial kernel typeout lines it said something about hardware initialization and I got a totally black screen. Everywhere; ctrl-alt-f1 and f2 and f3 and so on were totally black. I couldn't even reboot the machine with a ctrl-alt-delete chord; I had to power-cycle it. So I gave up on trying to use the "Alpha" release of F12. Thanks to a pointer (fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/Rawhide) from Radek Vykydal I was able to download the (current) 20090825 version of development/i386/os/images/boot.iso; I saw no DVD ISO image file or CDROM ISO image files to download so I guess they are not generated for "rawhide" releases. So I won't be able to test exactly what I am trying to do (an NFSISO install) on any "rawhide" release; I'll have to wait for a better "Alpha" or for a "Beta" release I guess. So again I extracted install.img and initrd.img and vmlinuz, from the 20090825 boot.iso, and booted them with PXE. This time, a kernel Rawhide/20090825/vmlinuz append initrd=Rawhide/20090825/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 successfully left me in the stage1 installer. But of course (since F10) you can't do an NFSISO install manually. So I tried kernel Rawhide/20090825/vmlinuz append initrd=Rawhide/20090825/initrd.img ramdisk_size=10000 repo=nfsiso:172.22.101.50:/home2/me/F/Rawhide/20090825 stage2=nfs:172.22.101.50:/home2/me/F/Rawhide/20090825/images/install.img ip=dhcp keymap=us lang=en_US.UTF-8 loglevel=debug (The last "append" was all on one line, in my pxelinux.cfg file.) It appeared to download the install.img and start it, since I got an arrow-shaped cursor on my screen for a short time. It looked like a GUI was about to start. But then I got the totally-black screen(s) and again I had to power-cycle it to get out. So I booted that PXE choice again but this time when it started I switched to the console window three, tty3, where the "INFO" messages type out, and then after a while I pressed my "scroll lock" key. That did what I wanted, in that it stopped the installation and didn't leave me in a black screen. I was then able to read things on the screen and to my amazement I was even able to type ctrl-alt-f4 to get the other screen of messages and even a ctrl-alt-f2 where the shell would accept my commands. So I could have copied them and pasted them here but this was done manually instead. On tty3, it said INFO : getting ready to spawn shell now FATAL : Module dm_mod not found. FATAL : Module dm_zero not found. FATAL : Module dm_mirror not found. FATAL : Module dm_snapshot not found. INFO : running Anaconda script /usr/bin/anaconda Along with lots of other stuff, both before and after those. So after noting those things down I pressed my "scroll lock" key again and it typed out a few more lines and then the screen went totally black again and I once more had to power-cycle it to get it to shutdown or reboot. So I guess Rawhide/20090825 is flawed. _______________________________________________ Anaconda-devel-list mailing list Anaconda-devel-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/anaconda-devel-list
