Kickstart network settings

In the kickstart docs,
(/usr/share/doc/anaconda-9.0/kickstart-docs.html), it says,

"If the kickstart installation does not require networking, [...]
networking is not configured for the system."

I have made many custom redhat-install CD's which use a kickstart on the
CD and use the CD as the installation media, and I do not believe this
is the case. If I set appropriate network settings in the kickstart they
seem to work after the the system is installed.

Is this in fact the case? Is this reliable? Is there a better way to set
post install network settings?

Thanks.
