I think it may be due to an incompatible hardware. Please compare your hardware with that of "Red Hat Linux 9 Hardware Compatibility List". Most of the H/W supported by RH9 is also supported by Fedora Core 1. If all the H/W you have are compatible then please try RH9 and then upgrade to Fedora.
