SATA shows up partially as SCSI devices and partially as IDE devices
(depending on how you look at things).  Getting native SATA support
working with Jeff's libata and ata_piix work required some changes to
kudzu and various places within anaconda for it to work.  Rawhide
anaconda has all of the needed changes.  Unfortunately, I don't have a
real simple "this is exactly what you need" list of the changes.
